Dr. Willmar Schwabe Arzneimittel Chooses Systec & Services as Prime Contractor for an MES and PLS Pr

Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH & Co. KG has selected Systec & Services GmbH as the prime contractor for delivery and installation of a manufacturing process control and visualization software system.

Schwabe is active in the development and manufacture of plant-based medicines. Due to growth in the company’s core business, the current system for processing, control and visualization of recipes for liquid medicines in one of the company’s existing facilities is in need of replacement. Standard software and hardware systems are required within the scope of the project. The goal is to install a computerized system for GMP-compatible support of the weighing processes and of the control and manufacturing processes for production of liquid medicines.

The principal reason for the engagement of Systec & Services as prime contractor was that Systec & Services is able to deliver the entire project from a single source: integration and customization of an MES system, delivery of a PLS system together with a partner, integration of all necessary hardware and software, as well as performance of validation and support services. An additional deciding factor was Systec & Services’ many years of experience with the unique requirements of the FDA- and GMP-regulated life sciences industries.

Systec & Services is supplying the RS PMX MES system from Rockwell Automation, all GMP IT hardware required within the scope of the project, the interface between the MES system and SAP, as well as qualification and validation services. As subcontractor, Lang und Peitler will upgrade the PCS system – currently automated with Simatic S5 – with the Siemens Simatic PCS 7 process control system. The full project is expected to be complete by May 2008.
